Kick-off of the maize silage season with Nundoroto

Jul 22, 2024

We are excited to announce the kick-off of the Kenyan maize silage season with Nundoroto Contractors, a subsidiary of Bles Dairies. This year, we aim to reach 5,000 acres of contracted maize silage for Kenyan dairy farmers. Nundoroto is running three 6-row forage harvesters on their own, and collaborate with two other forage harvesters to enable a total capacity of five forage harvesters.

Availability of high-quality fodder is crucial for dairy farmers in Kenya. Due to Nundoroto’s specialized and mechanized operations, we can provide Kenyan dairy farmers with quality and cost-competitive quality silage throughout the year. Year-round supply of quality fodder plays a large role in Bles Dairies’ mission to increase the profitability dairy farmers in Kenya, through innovation and driven by sustainability.

Before harvesting, Nundoroto Team checks the maize to ensure it is harvested at the right time to maximize on the dry matter content and quality of the maize. During harvesting, Nundoroto harvests maize using one of its 6-row forage harvester with a corn crusher, making sure we can harvest up to 30 acres of maize per day and the maize is crushed well. After harvesting, maximum compaction to ensure elimination of air and enable fermentation leading to highest nutritional value of the maize and avoid spoilage. The silage is covered with high-quality silage covers, which is resistant to UV-radiations and has oxygen barriers – safeguarding the quality of the maize.

Hamphrey

General Manager, Nundoroto

Our focus is on ensuring maximum dry matter (DM) yield per acre, and high energy (MJ/kg DM) per KG dry matter, which guarantees the highest nutritional value for increased and sustainable dairy production and profitability.

Once the maize silage is ready for use, Bles Dairies offers Farm Management Support to dairy farmers, ensuring that high-quality silage translates to better milk production and quality.

Boniface

Commercial Manager, Nundoroto

It’s a basic requirement for dairy cows to have access to metabolizable energy and dry matter for their optimum productivity. Quality silage plays a big role in animal diet, particularly Nundoroto silage due to its high DM content and palatability enhancing high feed conversion. In my role making feed rations on farms, Nundoroto silage has proved tremendous results.
