Crossbreeding program in Nigeria

Oct 6, 2016

End of September an expert of our consultancy discipline visited the south-western region of Nigeria to prepare the implementation of a cattle crossbreeding program with white Fulani dairy cows. This is an important breed throughout the area, mainly owned by the nomadic Fulani people.  The project aims to develop several clusters/regions in which 30 to 40 farmers will participate to improve their existing small-scale farms into commercial oriented farms based on a zero or rotational grazing plan.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with a local milk processing plant, Wageningen University and a number of local NGOs.

By visiting almost 30 farms and interviewing relevant parties, good insights were obtained on the current constrains and dairy farming development opportunities. More updates on this new project will be upcoming!
